I ran a half Marathon!

I ran the Helvetia half marathon on Saturday in Hillsboro OR. I've been training for almost 4 months for this but about 4 weeks ago I developed shin splints. Determined not to let that stop me I continued to keep running and training on them with lots of icy hot and pain pills. Well about a week before the race they started hurting more then ever before but still stubborn me was not going to let that stop me from running this race. The week before I just stood in a bucket of ice about 6 times a day for 7 days straight. But no relief came from doing this. So the day before the race I had my Brother and Scotland give me a blessing. With the faith of the blessing and the determination that I had to run this race, the next thing I know the gun went off and we were on our way to run 13.1 miles. I was running it with a few friends from church. I started out running with one friend that I knew I was about the same pace. But around mile 3 I had to fall behind and even start walking. My right leg was absolutely killing me! At that point I knew something was seriously wrong and it didn't feel like shin splints any more. Then another good friend caught up to me and asked how I was doing. I couldn't lie I had to say I was in extreme pain. But somehow I started jogging with a limp and I was able to keep up with her. Or she was just being nice and slowed down to my pace. I continued to run like this (I must have looked ridiculous) and me and her ended up finishing the race side by side. Besides the pain I actually had a great time running the race! My family stopped along the way and was able to cheer me on and get some good pictures. If it wasn't for them and knowing they were waiting for me at the finish line I don't know if I would have been able to finish it! Thanks guys!!

PICTURE TIME!!!!!

Here is me (hot pink shirt :) and my good friend Kim that stuck with me to the end!

Mason giving us high five about mile #6

My dad holding Mason back from taking off running after us. He wanted to run in the race too so bad.

Here I am reaching for water that I desperatly needed!!

A little blurry but this is my dad with Mason on his shoulders cheering me on about mile #8

My mom took a picture of all the cups that get thrown to the side at every water station. There were stations about every 2 miles to refuel up.

I don't think Im in this one just got a shot of the people running up a hill

Here is Kim and I coming down into the statium for the last stretch to the finish line! That last mile felt like it was never going to end!?!? We were both exhausted but could hear the cheering crowd from the statium and that kept us going!

WE DID IT!

Here's all of us that ran it. The girls on both ends kicked our butts, Then Gena in green wasn't far behind them and then there was me and Kim that came in at about 2 hrs and 24 min. Not bad for a handicap like me and a very nice friend that stayed with me. I had so much fun running it with these girls and can't wait to do it all together again....NEXT YEAR!!!

I love that my family was there for me at the end!

My awesome husband made this banner for me to hold up as we came into the finish shoot.

We got a tech T shirt for finishnig and a medal.

Now I can finially say I ran a half marathon and even though I do not enjoy running I think I'm going to have to do another one. Where I could try for a better time and not run it injured. I went into the clinic after the race for some x rays but nothing showed up so he is sending me in for an MRI or bone scan tomorrow. Im on pain pills and anti-inflamatory pills but still in ALLOT of pain and can't put any pressure on my right leg at all. Hope I heal fast because we are leaving for DISNEYLAND in 9 days!!
